AUCKLAND
Julie Chambers graduated with a PhD in public policy and child injury prevention from the University of Waikato in 2019. Julie initially completed an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Education at the University of Auckland. While serving as an elected representative in Auckland's local government, Julie graduated with a Masters in Public Policy (Victoria University of Wellington). In addition to local government experience, Julie has a strong health sector background from training in nursing and midwifery, lecturing in nursing and working in the field of child injury prevention at Starship Children's Hospital. Julie's special interest is in applying sociological perspectives to better understand how government and health services are delivered, and is currently focussed on learning more about how the Accident Compensation Scheme has influenced injury prevention within New Zealand. More recently her interests have extended to include looking at how local government responds to local environmental issues.
